Gene Details

Gene Name 1 Cadherin 5
Gene Summary 1 This gene encodes a classical cadherin of the cadherin superfamily. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature glycoprotein. This calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion molecule is comprised of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region and a highly conserved cytoplasmic tail. Functioning as a classical cadherin by imparting to cells the ability to adhere in a homophilic manner, this protein plays a role in endothelial adherens junction assembly and maintenance. This gene is located in a gene cluster in a region on the long arm of chromosome 16 that is involved in loss of heterozygosity events in breast and prostate cancer. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2015]
Chromosome 1 Chromosome 16
Locus 1 16q21
Coordinates 1 This gene maps to 66400524-66438689 in GRCh37 coordinates.
Gene Name 2 Matrix Metallopeptidase 15
Gene Summary 2 This gene encodes a member of the peptidase M10 family and membrane-type subfamily of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Proteins in this family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Members of this subfamily contain a transmembrane domain suggesting that these proteins are expressed at the cell surface rather than secreted. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature protease. This protein may play a role in cancer progression. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2016]
Chromosome 2 Chromosome16
Locus 2 16q21
Coordinates 2 This gene maps to 58059281-58080804 in GRCh37 coordinates.
Associated Diseases Bladder Urothelial Carcinoma
Species Human
